10 Signs Your Kid is Perfect for an OTL Summer Program

Summer is just around the corner, and we know you're looking for the perfect program to keep your kids active, learning, and having fun. We're here to help! Outside the Lens Summer Programs are the perfect balance of photography/digital media instruction, hands-on learning, creativity and good old summer camp fun. We have week-long programs for all ages and abilities, each led by professional media instructors. We have full-day and half-day options, as well as one-day workshops, at locations around San Diego.

Top 10 Signs Your Kid is Perfect for an OTL Summer Program

10. He does not realize that his camera can also be used as a telephone.

Take those selfie skills to the next level and learn how to use portraiture for digital storytelling at OTL's "The Story Within Us" summer camp for incoming 6-8th graders.

9. Your elementary schooler knows more about your digital camera than you do.

In "The ABC's of Photography," incoming 3-6th graders will dive deep into camera settings, photography techniques, basic digital photo editing, and stop motion animation.

8. She only needs a minute to win it.

From July 7-11, incoming 9-12th graders will learn get intensive videography training in "60-Second Films." Each student will script, storyboard, shoot and edit their very own festival-ready 60-second feature film!

7. His life motto is, "A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet."

In "Back to the Streets: Street Photography 102," incoming 6-8th graders will learn how photojournalists connect with their subjects to capture authentic street photography that is true-to-life.

Next Level Photography teaches incoming 9-12th graders all the settings on a DSLR, and how to edit using Photoshop. They'll be shooting and editing like a pro in just one week!

For the kid who is into all things retro, "Pinholes to GoPros" will explore the evolution of photography and all the forms that cameras have taken. Forget Instagram filters: This is the real thing!

In our "Breaking News!" summer camp, students aged 8-11 will learn all about photography and the tips and tricks photojournalists use to capture the real story. They'll even get to do on-location shoots! Is your teenager your best source of information? They can sign up for our Intensive Teen Photojournalism one-day workshop, where they'll get an overview of camera settings and techniques, then spend the day shooting stories on location!

Students aged 8-11 will learn the photographic styles of famous artists and practice mimicking their techniques in our "Creative Cameras" camp.

In our one-day Macro Photography Teen Workshop, teens will learn camera settings and techniques for both landscape and macro photography. Then they'll explore the trails of Balboa Park capturing the beauty of San Diego!
