Did Leonardo da Vinci invent the selfie?

"What's the difference between a selfie and a self-portrait?" Asks the Getty's blog in their most recent post.

Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, and Frida Kahlo are some of very, very many world-famous artists who painted self-portraits, and almost every professional photographer snaps a shot of him or herself in a reflective surface at some point in his or her career (check out some of these!)

And now, with that handy front-facing camera flip and help from the shameless selfie stick, we too can immortalize our visage to be admired and remembered for generations to come. Or to be SnapChatted and deleted instantly. (Click here to read an entertaining Washington Post article, "In Defense of the Selfie Stick".)

So what's the difference between our duck faces and The Two Fridas? Check out Annelisa Stephan's post on The Getty Iris.
