Meet the Interns - Jon

Hello Jon! Glad to have you here with Outside the Lens and contributing to all the wonderful work our OTL students are producing at Chaparral High School in El Cajon.

Tell us a little about yourself...

What made you interested in Outside the Lens?

The mission statement of empowering youth with cameras and digital media. It brings together two of my passions: photography and serving the community.

What have you learned during your internship with Outside the Lens so far?

I've learned that many of the young people I have work with are incredibly fast at learning new things and have the ability to bring about their ideas in ways I wouldn't think of.

What are skills are you hoping to gain?

I'm hoping to be able to create and teach various photography workshops that will benefit anyone interested in learning more about photography and how to create an image.

Why do you feel programs like Outside the Lens are important?

Programs like Outside the Lens provide an opportunity that would not be available to youth on a regular basis. These types of programs provide an alternative way for youth to explore ideas, learn new skills, and find a voice.

Who is your favorite artist?

Elliott Erwitt

What is your hidden talent?

Keeping things very, very, very organized.

Thanks Jon and keep up the hard work!
