Meet the Board

Get to know the guiding members behind Outside the Lens.

Maite Agahnia graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in Graphic Design. She ran her own graphic design firm for 11 years. In addition to serving as Creative Director of Outside the Lens, Maite works as a fine arts painter and has exhibited in several solo and juried group shows in Mexico and the US.

Lisa Kendall La Torre founded Kendall Group in 2010, a boutique firm that provides results-driven brand, marketing and communications services for clients. Before starting her business, she worked with several startups on successful brand launches and was VP of Business Partnerships for a San Diego marketing and PR firm. She was an integral part of the launch of digital services at Cox Communications and later led the team responsible for all marketing and acquisition. Lisa is passionate about the arts and actively involved with the San Diego Museum of Art on the Development and Art Alive Steering Committees.

Ivy Gordon has a business career that spans four decades where, as an entrepreneur and business owner, she co-founded a computer company in 1976 which she sold in 1993. She currently chairs two private advisory boards through Vistage International, working with over 30 CEOs and senior executives each month through coaching and consulting. Ivy holds a Masters degree in Organization Development from Pepperdine University and is an ICF certified professional coach and certified integral coach. Ivy enjoys traveling to less developed parts of the world with her camera.

Christina Gustin is a Financial Advisor in the downtown San Diego branch of UBS, and a partner of TheRK2Wealth Management Group. She was previously with Goldman Sachs and has more than 11 years of experience in the financial services industry. Christina is a member of San Diego Rotary Club 33, and enjoys the arts, traveling, and volunteering for children’s organizations such as The Monarch School and Mission Trails Little League. Christina and her husband, Chris, live in San Diego with their two sons.

Dr. Bibhu Mohanty, VP, Engineering at the Wireless Research Division of Qualcomm, received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1993. Since then he has been at the Wireless Research Division of Qualcomm Inc. in San Diego developing future wireless technologies. His early work contributed to the worldwide mobile revolution connecting billions of people, particularly in the emerging countries. Currently he heads a project of sixty engineers engaged in the research and development of the next generation of wireless technologies and applications, such as Wi-Fi, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. These are expected to play critical roles in society, from personal and enterprise communications to education, health care and many others. He holds more than 75 US Granted Patents and has several publications in the above areas. Apart from his professional interests, Bibhu pursues photographic art/medium, travel, cooking and is interested in social issues.

Caroline Nordquist has worked for two decades in the San Diego arts and culture community. For the past five years, she has held the role of Senior Development Manager at Mingei International Museum. Her passion for Mingei — as a museum that shares folk art, craft and design from around the world – is partly inspired by her international upbringing, having lived in Africa, Brazil and Holland, as a child. In her position at Mingei she oversees the organization’s contributed income and annual campaigns. She is also involved in a community engagement role at the organization and its current Capital Campaign.  She has held positions at several local arts organizations including the San Diego Museum of Art, La Jolla Playhouse and Outside the Lens. Her roles have encompassed fundraising with individuals, annual campaigns, and government grants, marketing and public relations and special event planning. She received her journalism degree in the UK, where she started her career as a journalist on a weekly paper in the Cotswolds, before beginning her fundraising career. Caroline is proud to serve on the board of Outside the Lens and is on the steering committee of the San Diego Regional Arts and Culture Coalition.

Leena Patidar brings over twenty years of strategy, finance, and accounting experience with Fortune 500/private companies ranging from banking services to venture capital. She has co-founded several successful business ventures in healthcare and retail services. She is currently providing Outsourced CFO services for various startups and small businesses, while also working on her own social impact startup. Leena earned her MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management and is a CPA. She also supports and serves on special committees for Just Like My Child Foundation/Girl Power. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, reading, and immersing herself in anything artistic.

Shelley Pierce is a graduate of Northwestern University. She worked as a docent and an arts educator with the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, where she was a part of the collector's group, and is co-founder of Outside the Lens.

Tim Scott, co-founder and CEO of TEGA Therapeutics, a glycobiology company focused on lysosomal storage disorder and recombinant heparan sulfates.  He previously was founder and President of Pharmatek Laboratories, a contract development and manufacturing company (sold to Catalent Pharma Solutions in 2016).  Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President at Active.com (IPO 2011).  Mr. Scott serves on the Board of Avelas, a bioscience company working to create better outcomes for cancer patients with its activatable cell-penetrating peptide technology.  He previously served on the board of Zacharon Pharmaceuticals (sold to Biomarin 2014).  Mr. Scott is a member of the boards of BIOCOM, a non-profit organization supporting the needs of bio/pharma companies in California and CONNECT, a non-profit helping to create and scale innovation companies in San Diego. At UC San Diego, he serves on the Dean's Advisory Council for the Division of Biological Sciences.  In the community, Mr. Scott serves on the board of the San Diego Blood Bank, and as a trustee for the La Jolla Playhouse, a Tony-award winning regional theatre. Mr. Scott earned his B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego. He earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego and is a member of the California Bar.

Elisa Thomson received her B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and continued her education at Art Center Pasadena and The Brooks Institute of Photography. She traveled extensively as a photojournalist and worked as a photo editor for ABC-Clio/Exegy. Her teaching is also informed by her many years as a commercial photographer for clients such as Quiksilver, Roxy, Tea & Scones and House. Before founding Outside the Lens, Elisa was the lead educator for Exposure at the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego.

Kelly Thomson has been involved with Outside the Lens since its inception and joined as a board member in 2009. In 2002, he co-founded an investment advisory firm, Magee Thomson Investment Partners, whose clients include eight of the largest pension funds in the world. He received his CPA in 1986.
